I joined the company in 2002 as a shift safety advisor. I then became a shift fireman for 4 years, and was promoted Area Safety Advisor on days, with the safety Department. I had the opportunity in 2008 to cycle to Paris to and celebrate the refinery’s 40th anniversary. So, it was natural for me to repeat the experience 10 years after and celebrate the 50th anniversary by cycling from Killingholme to Paris.
I am the only one who took the two rides. I strongly believe in team spirit: “the team starts together, finishes together. Nobody gets dropped”. Due to my interest in the sport of cycling, I take any chances I can to get involved in an event. This ride was also a way for me to help the Lincolnshire Air Ambulance charity whose intervention 2 ½ years ago was crucial to save my friend and colleague Steve Cook.
