Total has been involved in oil and gas exploration and production in Colombia since 1971.

  • 1926, The PSC launches oil exploration missions in Colombia. She will spend 20 MF.

  • 1971, Elf Aquitaine creates Elf Colombia SA.

  • 1979, Elf discovers Cano Garza.

  • In 1982, Elf discovers an oil deposit in the Llanos region.

  • 1983, Elf obtains Yopal license in foothills and discovers Gloria Norte 1 and Cano Garza Norte 1. Total sells its assets in Colombia.

  • 1985, Elf obtains four new permits: Cabugaro, Aqua Verde, Rio Ariporo, Yalea and discovers oil at La Flora 1.

  • 1987 Elf Aquitaine discovers light oil at Cravo Este and heavy oil at Gloria 2. Total discovers the Yaguara field. The construction of the trans-Andean pipeline, in which the Elf group participates, begins.

  • 1989, discovery of oil and gas on the permits of Santiago de Las Atalayas where Total has a 40% interest.

  • 1991, Total is associated with the discovery of Cusiana.

  • 1992, Total enters a new license in Colombia (Upia).

  • 1993, Elf Aquitaine sells upstream interests.

  • 1994, Total acquires exploration rights in Block 9 northeast of Cusiana.

  • 1995, Total makes a positive drilling near the Cupiagua field. Coates (Total) takes 26% of Sinclair, leading producer of inks in Colombia and distributor in neighboring countries.

  • 1996, Total acquires two new licenses, Rivera and Gaitanas.

  • 1997, Coates realizes the acquisition of Sinclair, the leading producer of printing inks.

  • 1998, Total commissions the Cupiagua production center.

  • In 2000, the production of the Cusiana-Cupiagua field (TotalFinaElf 15.2%) was 340 000 b / d for both fields. On the Gaitanas permit, the results of the 1999 seismic survey make it possible to decide on drilling that is carried out the following year.

  • 2001, TotalFinaElf signs two contracts on Tangara and Mondo Nuevo licenses (TotalFinaElf 55%). The Group enters into an association contract for the Sinu offshore license.

  • 2002-2003, the Group completed a 3D seismic on the Tangara license (TotalFinaElf 55%). The Capachos and San Miguel onshore exploration licenses (TotalFinaElf 40%) are returned in 2002 as well as the Sinu offshore license (TotalFinaElf 100%).

  • 2003, the Group returns the Gaitanas exploration license (TOTAL 70.0%).

  • 2004, an exploration well is drilled on the Tangara permit (TOTAL, 55.0%).

  • In 2005, new agreements were concluded for the sale of gas from a new processing plant of 180 Mpc / d started in 2003 and started in September 2005. A GTL project using Cusiana and Cupiagua gas is study and is the subject of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Total, Ecopetrol and other partners.

  • In 2006, in order to renew the Group's exploration field in Colombia, TOTAL exited the Tangara license at the end of 2006. In addition, an agreement was signed in September to enter 50% of the Niscota exploration block.

  • 2008, TOTAL becomes operator of the Caracara block through its participation in CEPSA.

  • In 2011, TOTAL reduced its stake to 5.2% in the Ocensa pipeline by selling 10% of this asset.

  • 2012, TOTAL completes in October the sale of its interests in the Cusiana hydrocarbon field and in the OAM and ODC pipelines to Sinochem, for an amount of 318 million euros ($ 409 million), net of the cash surrendered .

  • 2013, Total sells all of its shares in the Ocensa pipeline, maintaining the corresponding transport rights.

  • 2014, the Group signs an agreement in December to transfer part of its transport rights in the Ocensa pipeline, a transaction finalized in February 2015.

  • 2017, TOTAL puts the Niscota field into production (71.4%). The declaration of marketability of the development of the field is made in November 2018. Production is 1 kboe / d in 2018.
