Total is present in Libanon since 1930.

1930 - 2019

  • 1930, the IPC (Iraq Petroleum Company), of which Total owns 23.75%, builds a pipe line on Tripoli (through Syria and Lebanon under French mandate).

  • 1940, the IPC, built the refinery in Haifa (Israel), as well as a backup refinery, known as the “pocket refinery” in Tripoli, Lebanon.

  • 1949, downstream, the CFP begins to sell products from the Tripoli refinery in Lebanon and Syria.

  • In 1955, the CFP increased its stake in the CCC (Commercial Fuel Company) of Lebanon to 50% in order to sell products from the Tripoli refinery.

  • 1959, Lebanon increases transit rights. Total is affected by this increase.

  • 1966, Total takes over the assets of the OFP which had a subsidiary in Lebanon, Lebanese Petroleum Co, of which it owned 70%. The main minority sells its share to the CFP, which merges this company with its subsidiary Total Liban. Total then has a market share of 25% in Lebanon.

  • 1973, Lebanon seized the Tripoli refinery.

  • Today, the Group is present in Lebanon in the sector of production exploration where it operates for 40% on two offshore blocks, the sector of petrochemicals and in the distribution of petroleum products with a network of 180 gas stations.
