Completion of the Kirkuk-Baniyas pipeline

April 23, 1952 - the completion of the pipeline from the Kirkuk oil field to the Mediterranean terminal in Baniyas in Syria. The last section laid, the last welding has just been carried out: the two teams - that part from Kirkuk to the east and that part from Baniyas to the west - shake hands over the pipe to celebrate the event .

It was in 1948, on the initiative of the CFP, that the Iraq Petroleum Company established a vast development program and decided to build this giant pipeline, 800 km long, with a capacity of 300,000 barrels / day built between 1950 and 1952. It was then a real technical feat.

Damaged during the Gulf War in 2003, the pipeline will be rebuilt in 2007.
